TRICARE is a comprehensive health care program for active duty military, retired military, National Guard and Reserve members, Medal of Honor recipients, family members, survivors and eligible former spouses. TRICARE combines military health care resources, such as military hospitals and clinics, with a network of civilian health care providers, facilities, pharmacies and service providers to protect, preserve, maintain and restore the health of those entrusted to them. . . Care TRICARE offers a variety of health insurance plans, dental plans and pharmacy benefits to eligible beneficiaries.

TRICARE is available worldwide. There are three TRICARE regions in the United States—TRICARE North, TRICARE South, and TRICARE West—and one overseas region with three regions—TRICARE Eurasia-Africa, TRICARE Latin America and Canada, and TRICARE Pacific. Your TRICARE benefits are the same no matter where you live, but each region has different customer service contacts. TRICARE partners with civilian regional contractors to operate TRICARE health care facilities in four regions. Health Net Federal Services, LLC operates sites in the Northern Territory; Humana operates facilities in the military southern region; and UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans operates facilities in the Western Region. International SOS Government Services, Inc. manages overseas facilities. Your regional contractor is your primary source of information and help about your TRICARE benefits. Each regional contractor has a website and a toll-free customer service call center to answer questions and concerns on issues such as eligibility, applications and pre-authorizations, claims, appeals and fraud. TRICARE dental and pharmacy facilities are operated by separate contractors. You can look and get more information. Visit for more information about benefits abroad

Because the TRICARE website is a public website, open for information only and open to anyone with Internet access, anything that requires registration and access to your personal information can be done through TRICARE’s secure partner websites. These websites require secure access and are maintained by the Department of Defense or medical, dental and pharmaceutical contractors who manage DoD and TRICARE facilities. You can use partner sites to access your data and provide a variety of secure online services. However, each site may have different login requirements. In many cases, you may need: A Common Access Card or CAC to log in; Defense Finance and Accounting Service or DFAS, Personal Identification Number or myPay PIN; Or DoD Self Service Login or DS Login. Why not single sign-on? TRICARE facilities are operated by the Department of Defense and civilian contractors, many of whom have their own websites and electronic systems. Self-service options may require you to visit various websites that have links to all of these resources.

Before you begin the TRICARE Prime enrollment process, first determine whether you live in a Prime or PSA service area by checking your zip code. A PSA is a geographic area where TRICARE Prime is offered, usually near a military hospital or clinic. If you are using PSA, select PCM. If a military PCM is not available, your PCM may be located at a military hospital or clinic or a civilian TRICARE network provider under HPPS. If you are not enrolled in PSA, select Plan Search to learn more about your TRICARE program options.

There are three ways to enroll in TRICARE Prime: Online: Because your eligibility for TRICARE, not TRICARE, determines your eligibility for TRICARE Prime, online enrollment for TRICARE Prime is done through the Department of Defense website called Beneficiary Web Enrollment, or BWE. The BWE website securely transmits your personal information to the Defense Services Eligibility Reporting System, or DERS, a worldwide database of military personnel and dependents eligible for military benefits. To register with BWE you must have a CAC, DFAS myPay PIN or DS Logon. We will discuss these access methods later in this briefing. Phone: Call your local contractor. Mail: Download the TRICARE Primary Care Enrollment, Disenrollment, and Primary Care Manager (PCM) Change Form, DD Form 2876, and mail it to your regional contractor.

The BWE website provides a secure portal that allows eligible TRICARE beneficiaries in the United States to enroll in or opt out of TRICARE Prime Option or TRICARE Young Adult, select or change PCMs, and enroll in TRICARE Dental Options. Beneficiaries can use BWE to update their contact information in DEERS. It’s important to remember that you must be logged in before you can access anything in BWE. If you would like a demo to use this site, select “BWE Demo” at the bottom of the home page.

To access the many secure self-service options available at BWE, you must log in using the following: DS Login is available to all spouses and other beneficiaries 18 years of age or older; The CAC is owned by all DoD military personnel and civilians; Or, if you do not have access to your DFAS myPay PIN and CAC A DS, which provides access to your payroll information, it can be used, especially if you need access to your family members’ personal health information and important TRICARE correspondence. On the login page, log in using your DS Logon, CAC or DFAS myPay PIN. If you need help, select Help Center at the top of the BWE login page.

This slide shows the available login options by recipient category. Service members can use any of three options including CAC, DFAS myPay PIN or DS login. Retired military personnel can usually use a DFAS myPay or DS Logon PIN. Access to other eligible family members, including spouses, surviving spouses, and children over age 18, generally requires access to a DS. DS Logon provides access to military personnel, retirees and other eligible family members. Note. Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration do not receive payment through DFAS and do not have a DFAS MyPay PIN.
