TRICARE is a uniformed services health care program for active duty members, retired members, National Guard and Reserve members, Medal of Honor recipients, eligible family members, survivors and former spouses. TRICARE integrates the health care resources of the military health system, such as military hospitals and clinics, with a network of civilian health professionals, institutions, pharmacies and service providers to promote, protect, maintain and restore the health of those they care for. care TRICARE offers eligible beneficiaries several health plans, dental programs and pharmacy benefits.

TRICARE is available worldwide. There are three TRICARE regions in the United States — TRICARE North, TRICARE South, and TRICARE West — and one overseas region with three areas — TRICARE Eurasia-Africa, TRICARE Latin America and Canada, and TRICARE Pacific. Your TRICARE benefit is the same no matter where you live, but there are different customer service contacts for each region. TRICARE works with civilian regional contractors to administer TRICARE health benefits in four regions. Health Net Federal Services, LLC administers benefits in the northern region; Humana Military administers welfare in the southern region; and UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans administers benefits in the western region. SOS International Government Services, Inc. administer benefit from outside. Your regional contractor is your primary source of information and assistance regarding your TRICARE benefits. Each regional contractor has a website and a toll-free customer call center to help you with your questions and concerns about matters such as eligibility, referrals and prior authorizations, appeals, complaints and fraud. Because the TRICARE website at is a public website for information only—open to anyone with Internet access—enrollments and all actions that require access to your personal information occur through secure TRICARE partner websites. These websites require a secure login and are maintained by the Department of Defense, or DoD, and the medical, dental, and pharmacy contractors who administer the TRICARE benefit. You can use partner sites to access your information and complete many secure online services. However, each site may have different login requirements. In many cases, you may need: a Common Access Card or CAC to enter; Defense Finance and Accounting Service or DFAS Personal Identification Number or myPay PIN; or A DoD Self-Service Logon, or DS Logon Why is there no unique character? TRICARE benefits are administered by the Department of Defense and civilian contractors, many with their own websites and electronic systems. Although you may have to go to several different websites for self-service options, it provides a portal to all of these resources.

The TRICARE website allows you to manage your benefits at home or online through TRICARE’s secure partner websites. Let’s look at one of the most important actions you may need to take – signing or changing your registration. Get started by selecting “Sign up or buy a plan” from the “I want…” menu.

Once you’ve made your choice, you can choose from a variety of TRICARE program options that are right for you or your family. Here, we explain how to enroll in a program like TRICARE Prime, which is required for active-duty service members and may be available to others who qualify. 10

Before starting the TRICARE Prime application process, first determine if you live in a Prime service area or PSA by checking your zip code. A PSA is a geographic area, usually near a military hospital or clinic, where TRICARE Prime is offered. If you live in PSA, select PCM. Your PCM may be at a military hospital or clinic, or with a civilian TRICARE network provider under PSA if a military PCM is not available. If you do not live in a PSA, select “Plan Finder” to learn more about your TRICARE program options.

There are three ways to enroll in TRICARE Prime: Online: Because your service personnel office, not TRICARE, determines your eligibility for TRICARE, online enrollment in TRICARE Prime is done through a DoD website called Beneficiary Web Enrollment, or BWE . The BWE website securely links your personal information to the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, or DEERS, which is a database of service members and dependents worldwide who are eligible for military benefits. To register using BWE, you must have a CAC, DFAS myPay PIN or DS login. We will discuss these login methods later in this briefing. Phone: Call the regional contractor. By Mail: Download the TRICARE Enrollment, Disenrollment, and Primary Care Management (PCM) Change Form, which is DD Form 2876, and mail it to your regional contractor.

The BWE website, available at is a secure portal that allows eligible TRICARE beneficiaries in the United States to enroll in or opt out of TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Young Adult options and select or change PCMs, as well as enroll in TRICARE dental options. Users can also use BWE to update their contact information in DEERS. It is important to remember that before you can access anything in BWE, you must log in. To access the many secure self-service options available on BWE, you must log in using: a DS login, available to all spouses and other users over the age of 18; CAC, which has all the military and civilians of the Ministry of Defence; or myPay DFAS PIN, which allows access to your payment information and can be used if you do not have a CAC A DS application is especially useful if you have family members who need access to their personal health information and correspondence important TRICK .
