When adjusted for HIV infection rates, today’s average STD infection rate for people age 55 and older is 103.2 per 100,000, but many states have higher rates, and in some cases much higher. In fact, the average STD rate in the District of Columbia (including chlamydia, gonorrhea, primary and secondary syphilis, and HIV) is 881.8, which is more than eight times the national rate for people 55 and older. Other states are close to this number.

Half of the ten states with the highest averages are located in the South, and four more are in the Northeast.
