Tricare For Life East Region – Your Tricare benefit is the same no matter where you live, but there are different customer service contacts for each region. Each region is managed by a contractor who provides you with medical care.

A Tennessee couple has been convicted and ordered to pay $65 million for their roles in the Pentagon’s largest Tricare fraud case. The pair are among hundreds being prosecuted for their roles in the largest health care fraud case involving Tricare. Residents of Wisconsin in 1945 lack work, shelter, food, and supplies. Paying for healthcare is a struggle. 1946 The State Medical Society develops the Wisconsin Plan, a low-cost health insurance product, and establishes the Wisconsin Physician Service to market and administer the plan. 1956 WPS selects Wisconsin as contractor for Department of Defense military health plan. 1960 WPS develops and markets the Century Plan for customers 65 and older.
1966 WPS created the Medicare PLUS Supplement Plan, now known as WPS Medicare Supplement Insurance. WPS begins serving Medicare beneficiaries and their health care providers. 1970 WPS formed a new HMO, the first of its kind. 1981 WPS receives a new contract from the Department of Defense that more than doubles the volume of military health claims. 1984 WPS creates EPIC Life Insurance Company, now known as EPIC Specialty Benefits, to sell and administer group life and disability insurance.

The 1998 WPS completed the largest Medicare transition in history by leveraging the Medicare Part B workload for Michigan and Illinois. 2000 WPS began processing applications for the new TRICARE For Life program. In 2003, WPS was awarded the TRICARE Dual Eligibility Fiscal Intermediary contract to provide services to more than 1.7 million individuals eligible for both TRICARE and Medicare. In 2007, WPS awarded the Medicare Jurisdiction 5 contract for Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska.
2008 WPS began work on the federal TRICARE For Life contract, serving active duty military, veterans and their families. In 2010, WPS was named one of the “World’s Most Ethical Companies®” for the first time. In 2011 WPS awarded the Medicare Jurisdiction 8 contract for Indiana and Michigan. In 2014, WPS began working on Veterans Affairs’ patient-centered community care program, serving qualified vets in 28 western states, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
In 2017, WPS was named a subcontractor for TRICARE’s Eastern Region, which covers approximately six million active duty military personnel, veterans and their families in 30 states. 2020 Over 93% of WPS employees have begun working remotely as our work and social environments have changed dramatically due to COVID-19. 2021 We celebrate our 75th anniversary.
