When Jacqui found out her husband was unfaithful, it wasn’t in the dramatic, fiery scene she saw in the movies.

There wasn’t a moment where he found evidence of an obvious affair or match when he walked out on her with another woman.

Instead, it was a quiet, quiet conversation that came after months of feeling like her marriage was falling apart. He knew something was wrong, they felt like they were drifting apart – but he couldn’t get things back on track.

So, after a week of what felt like dishes in the night, he sat across from her at a formal dinner and almost shouted, “You’re leaving me, aren’t you.”

It wasn’t a big surprise when she started crying and said, “No, I don’t want our marriage to end. But I have something to tell you.”

Jacqui said she felt physically prepared for the news as she added: “You had an affair, didn’t you?”

“This is going to sound strange, but at first this news gave me relief,” he said. “I can’t explain it, but I felt like I hadn’t done anything wrong after her -everything? I would like months to go to a therapist together – I would go alone and I felt like I had failed in some way and It’s sad but I felt better because no it was my fault and i wasn’t thinking about things.

But while the revelation that her husband was having an affair wasn’t a complete blow, the news of the affair certainly was.

“She’s the last person on the planet I thought she’d have a relationship with,” says Jacqui. “The way he talked to her and the horrible way he treated her – I honestly thought he’d rather have sex with a porcupine than go back to her.

Jacqui wanted to know all the details immediately. But her husband thought it would be best to see a therapist right away and get help.

“I’ve been wanting it for months, so it felt a little rich,” he said. “We arranged a meeting, but I said I would only go if he told me everything that happened first.

She Cheated On Me So Why Am I Still In Love With Her?

Her husband admitted that he had sex with his ex-wife three times. The first one was after her father’s funeral, which Jacqui’s husband was present without.

“I didn’t think twice about encouraging him to go,” he said. “My husband lost his father when he was a teenager, that’s when he was first with his ex-wife, so his father became his father. They were very close.”

Jacqui says she was incredibly hurt and embarrassed by who her husband was in a relationship with. “It’s like he won in a way, you know?” he said. “You can’t help but think that when you’re with someone who’s been married, a few of you want to compare things to how they were in your first marriage. You want to be better. Sometimes this felt like it was better.”

Some time has passed since the relationship and Jacqui and her husband are still in therapy. He agreed that they would give him a year to try to make amends and if he couldn’t, they would talk about divorce. Some days she thinks it will end in divorce, other days she is hopeful and wants to stay with him.
