Today’s presentation is intended to provide an overview of your TRICARE dental benefits.

Today we will discuss how to update your information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) and dental coverage through the Active Duty Dental Program, the TRICARE Dental Program, and the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program. How to get the benefits We look at dental opportunities abroad. Finally, we will discuss the differences between medical and non-medical dental services and provide you with contact information if you have additional questions.

Once you and your family are registered with DEERS, be sure to update addresses and other contact information for all family members. Keeping your DEERS information, especially your address, up-to-date is important to ensure continued TRICARE coverage for you and your family. Only the sponsor can add family members to DEERS, but both sponsors and family members over the age of 18 can update their contact information. Any change in marital status (marriage, birth, adoption, divorce, death, etc.), whether you are currently on active duty or not, update your information immediately if any change occurs. or by mail. Or you can update by fax. Update your information online through the milConnect website. MilConnect is the Defense Force Information Center’s online portal through which you can access your information in DEERS. Enroll children in DEERS on time coverage and minimize delays or problems with claims processing.

Healthier Smiles With Dental Checkups

National Guard and Reserve members, including active duty members, who are called or ordered to active duty for a pre-planned federal deployment or in support of an emergency response operation for more than 30 days, automatically receive TRICARE dental coverage. Get the benefits. If you live or work within 50 miles of a military dental treatment facility (DTF), you must receive care from a military dentist. Visit your base’s website or contact your team to find a dental clinic. The Active Duty Dental Program (ADDP) provides civilian dental care to military personnel who cannot receive the care they need at a military dental clinic. ADDP is available in the United States and US territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands). ADDP United Concordia Companies, Inc. (United Concordia) and is available to military members who: receive referrals from military DTFs or live and work more than 50 miles from a base with a military DTF. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are correctly coded as “remote” in DEERS when applicable. You should work with your department to make changes today. Note: If you live or work within 50 miles of a military DTF and receive civilian dental care without a referral, you may be responsible for the entire bill. If you live too far away, you will need an Appointment Control Number (ACN) to make an appointment. Next we will talk about ACNs.

You must have an ACN from United Concordia to receive coverage through ADDP. If a military dentist refers you to ADDP, he or she must verify the referral request with your ACN. The number is only valid for the service specified in the offer confirmation. Be sure to get another quote if you need additional services. Remember, regardless of where you live, dental care in the private sector is not approved unless it is provided by ACN United Concordia. If you live in a remote area, you can fill out the Appointment Control Number form to get an appointment control number. The form is available on the ADDP website. Once you have an ACN, you have three ways to schedule an appointment through ADDP: If you have a military dentist, you can schedule an appointment with him or her. You can contact the ADDP Dental Care Finder to schedule an appointment for you. Or make an appointment yourself. To schedule your appointment, indicate your in-network dentist on the application form with your appointment tracking number. You must select a network dentist who is a dentist contracted with United Concordia to provide services at negotiated rates. A list of network dentists can be found on the ADDP website. Note: Activated Reserve members who are in the initial enlistment phase and live within 50 miles of a DTF may receive dental care from a civilian dentist with an ACN. No need to go to DTF first.

Eligible beneficiaries may enroll in the TRICARE Dental Program (TDP), a voluntary, premium-based DoD program. The benefit is administered by United Concordia. This program includes: active duty family members, members of the Selected Reserve and individual Ready Reserves and their families, transition survivors, surviving family members. This program is available in CONUS and OCONUS locations. The TDP CONUS service area includes the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands. The TDP-OCONUS service area includes areas not included in the CONUS service area, as well as cover services provided on a ship or vessel outside the territorial waters of the CONUS service area. Team sponsorship is not required for OCONUS coverage, but costs are higher for non-team-sponsored OCONUS participants.

You can enroll in TRICARE Dental online, by mail, or by phone. Visit the Beneficiary Web Enrollment (BWE) portal to get the registration form. Your first premium payment is required after registration. You can use a credit card to pay the premium. If you enroll by mail, you can pay your first month’s premium by check, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card. The monthly premium covers dental care for the next month. The minimum registration period for most welfare recipients is 12 months. Exceptions include: Ineligible beneficiaries. Personnel stationed in OCONUS or any area where a military dental facility has capacity for care. National Guard and Reserve members who are called to federal service for more than 30 days of active duty, such as in support of a predetermined mission or emergency operation. NOTE: Enlisted TDP members of the National Guard or Reserve will be disenrolled if called or ordered to active duty for more than 30 days in support of a predetermined federal mission or emergency operation. After deletion, you will be automatically re-registered. Family members remain enrolled and pay lower premiums as long as the sponsor is active.

The chart shows some of your costs for the services you receive when you have TDP coverage. The cost share is the percentage of the allowable payment that you pay for covered services. For example, if United Concordia’s subsidy amount for a primary filling in the United States is $100, you are responsible for 20 percent of that amount, or $20. Note: Cost sharing is based on the amount agreed with United Concordia, not the dentist’s fee. If you use a network dentist, TDP covers a full range of preventive and diagnostic services, usually including two of your checkups and dental cleanings within a 12-month period. If you use an out-of-network dentist, you will be responsible for the difference between the United Concordia Benefit and the dentist’s fee, in addition to co-payments.
