What Happens To My Fidelity 401k When You Quit – Have questions about personal investing? No matter how simple or complex, you can ask here.
I left office in March. I have about $800k in a 401k w/Fidelity. Since then, it has been 100% invested in Standish Income/Stable Value fund options. As of January 1st, my 401k was transferred to a new 401k (also Fidelity) because the company was acquired. Nothing to worry about.. Here’s the rub:

What Happens To My Fidelity 401k When You Quit
When I looked at the statement on 1/3/20, I saw a total of $902k (amazing!) in Vanguard’s Fed MM Admiral Stock. However, today the total is only $852,000 (huh????). $50,000 difference. There is no maintenance in the history of the business, and since this pool, there should be no significant change in value. When discussing this with the staff working with Fido, they said there was no change or $902k idea. I took a picture worth $902k (because it was an important event for me), but there was no way to send it to the rep (I didn’t believe it). The agent said that they will accept my request, but don’t worry, this could be a mistake and everything will be fine. Back to my old 401k, the bonus total increased by $50k in December…recorded as a “change in Value”. if the distribution pattern is strange or some kind of bug. Am I crazy to think this deserves an explanation from Fidelity? How can we trust that this setup is correct? Please see the screenshot:

What caught my attention is that in your first picture, there is a section for ~$50k in income in your three main income streams.
Bottom line… $50k from 3 sources for the same amount. You’re almost back to where you started before the $50,000 secret was revealed
$50K on ~850K fixed income is a mistake … 5.88% end of year loan … you have to go back and see if this money is distributed monthly, quarterly or annually but a stable profit of almost 6% is unheard of in this environment
This is all Fidelity has to say…you can scroll up to get it. I had a problem when I retired when some strange behavior appeared… Before someone could explain why and how I support those 3 levels.
Fidelity Investments Review: Weigh The Pros And Cons
Is there a chance the free $ is part of the company’s game that hasn’t been offered yet? $50,000 is lost in games, taxes, and company contributions…$50,000 is added to 3 of the previous plans, then subtracted from all 3 in the new plan.

Especially since the op took the picture on 1-31-2021, there should be a statement ending on 12-31-2020 to refer to. Does it show $902k?
There are no details on this issue, but I will add that Fidelity accidentally distributed $10k to my husband’s IRA last month and it was easy to work with to fix it.

See if this money is distributed monthly, quarterly or annually, but a stable profit of almost 6% is unheard of in this environment. Say you owe Fidelity an explanation…you can go up and get it. I had a problem with my pension when I got a strange graph… Before Mike explained what this money is and how it is distributed every month, I confirmed the third level. A wind and out my .. but the money does not determine and change the distribution a little … and Fidelity still says that there is no record.
I have a company 401k with Fidelity. At the end of 2020, many funds were discontinued and replaced by others (for example, the Northern Trust Collective Extended Market Index Fund replaced the Russell 2000 fund, and our international fund was replaced by another VG Institutional International Index trust). As a result, the position in the terminated fund is paid and the resulting money is reinvested in the new fund. Each of these transactions represents a “change” in “change in market value.” For international investments, my history shows a “change” of $110,572.33 (representing 849,772 shares) and a “market value change” of $19,483.85 (0 shares). I found a “swap” that matched the previous currency “swap” for the new international currency of $110, $572.33.
My best guess is that the “change in market value” is simply…the actual capital gain (or loss) in the currency. In other words, it is nothing more than an accounting entry and does not represent “money” money or shares (as indicated by the 0 shown above). I don’t see why your situation would be any different, unless your money is rolled into the new 401k and not another fund. I will wait for your “change”.

Of course, understanding this can also go a WAY. Also, you don’t need a PhD (which I have) to know what’s going on…
Could it be the $49k “change in market value” due to the difference? It seems to be double counting where you think the balance is “about 800k”. If so, the error makes you hope. Do you have any reason to believe you should have 900k more than what you just saw? It may be associated with a distribution calculation or something similar.

Does it show $902k? No, the December statement does not show $902,000. But do not record the payment in the statement 31/12/2020, like 11/2020 and 10/2020. So I’m not interested…it’s just a big mistake if it’s not $50k. See below:
So, I’m like everyone else, you don’t have (most likely) a $50k mistake, you have a sign that could be an order/explanation. Delivery instructions appear a few months after the amount transferred. You could contact your old 401k provider and ask about that line item, but since you’re no longer a customer, you might get lucky and spend a little longer.

In short, Fidelity does not miss $50k in your $401k.

I agree that the $50k value change could be a value error, but I had one distribution that was $50k and now nothing happens without an explanation…that’s the problem. If I call Fidelity and they say, “We see the problem and we fix it … you will get an official reminder in the mail that the correct distribution is $ X” blah blah .. then, I will not worry. However, the first and second CSRs said there was nothing wrong with them
