Sleepy All The Time Causes
According to a YouGov poll conducted earlier this year, one in eight Britons feel tired all the time, and one in four feel tired most of the time.
Still Tired After 8 Hours Of Sleep? A Sleep Doctor Explains
This makes sense, given that only a third of us get a minimum of seven hours of sleep a night, and only one in five consistently get a full eight hours.
But there are still a large number of people who feel tired, no matter how well they sleep or for how long they sleep.
Here, MailOnline takes a look at some of the reasons why you should cite science, and what you can do to address them.
According to a YouGov poll conducted earlier this year, one in eight Britons feel tired all the time, and one in four feel tired most of the time. There can be a number of medical reasons for this, such as drinking too much caffeine, secretive snoring, or having an underlying health problem.

It is estimated that 40% of British adults snore to some extent, which equates to about 15 million people.
For 1 in 10 of these people, it could be a sign of a disease known as sleep apnea. This occurs when the walls of the throat weaken and narrow during sleep, blocking the passages.
You would think that with decades of practice, we would all be professionals by now. So why do millions of us still struggle to get a good night’s sleep?
Two-thirds of adults in the United States and the United Kingdom do not get the recommended eight hours, and studies show that the average American and British citizen gets only six hours.
Tiredness And Anxiety: Symptoms, Causes And Proven Ways To Relieve Your Fatigue
Busy life and hectic work schedule are the most common reasons for insufficient sleep. But our obsession with technology, lack of exercise and late-night eating culture are also the reasons behind our poor sleep.
In recent years, sleep doctors have raved about the “10-3-2-1” formula, a step-by-step guide on how to best prepare yourself for optimal daytime sleep.
But that’s bad news if you like caffeine, because the method states that it should be consumed at least 10 hours before bed. Whoever is late must take it three hours before bed or risk the night.
The guide also recommends ditching your work email two hours before work, and even avoiding phones, tablets and laptops for an hour before hitting the lawn.
Sleep Deprived? Here Is What Lack Of Sleep Does To Your Body
It has been called the “silent killer” because sleep disorders prevent the body from resting properly during deep sleep, putting extra stress on our organs.
During attacks, a lack of oxygen forces the patient’s brain out of deep sleep to reopen the airway.
It has actually been linked to high blood pressure, which in turn can lead to strokes and heart attacks. A study of 4,000 patients last week found that combined with sleep apnea, it can increase the risk of cancer.
Half of the patients in the study had cancer. The results showed that those with severe sleep apnea were more likely to develop lung, prostate or skin cancer.
Why Am I Sleepy All The Time: Does It Mean I’m Lazy?
Swedish scientists aren’t sure whether disturbed sleep is a cause or a symptom of cancer, but it is a worrying sign.
If you secretly snore and have sleep apnea, you may notice that you feel very tired during the day, have trouble concentrating, or have a headache when you wake up. Sleep apnea does not always need treatment if it is mild.
But many people have to use a device called a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine. This will be given to you free of charge from the NHS if necessary.
A CPAP machine gently pumps air into a mask that you place over your mouth or nose while you sleep. Less common treatments for sleep apnea include a device such as a gum shield that keeps the airway open during sleep, known as a mandibular retractor, and surgery to remove the large tonsils.
Sis, Here’s Why You’re So Tired All The Time
It can be the antidote in the middle of the day if you’re feeling tired and unmotivated, but it can also rob you of quality sleep.
In a 2013 study, researchers found that people who drank coffee, tea, or energy drinks six hours before bed slept one hour less.
The study was conducted on 16 “good sleepers” who all slept six to eight hours a night and typically fell asleep within 30 minutes of falling asleep.
5 people were placed under strict surveillance for 49 days. When they fell asleep, they were given different treatments: either a double dose of caffeine, exposure to bright or dim light, or a placebo. Caffeine delays circadian rhythms by 40 minutes.
Why Am I Sleepy All The Time? Are There Any Solutions?
Many people still do not know that caffeine can remain in the body for up to 10 hours.
This means that people who plan to go to bed at 10pm should stop taking it at 12am if they want to get the best sleep possible.
As its effects wear off, your body may experience a wave of adenosine that hits you all at once.
If you drink coffee with added sugar, this can increase your sleep difficulties. Sweeteners like sugar, syrup or honey can actually cause a sugar crash, according to new research.

If your body isn’t used to the sugar in your coffee, it may produce more insulin in response. This can cause blood glucose levels to drop, leading to an old-fashioned sugar crash.
A survey conducted by New York Hospital and Cornell Medical Center found that 75 percent of 3,000 people were chronically dehydrated.
Surveys in the UK have shown that Britons use just 850ml of water a day, less than half the recommended daily amount on average.
In a 2019 study, researchers in China examined the effects of severe dehydration on brain power and mood. They recruited 20 people, who were not allowed to drink water for a day and a half.
How Feeling Tired And Low Energy Can Come From Poor Gut Health
By studying participants’ moods before and after dehydration, Peking University scientists found that dehydrated people felt twice as tired.
The study, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, found that a lack of water slows people’s reading speed and reaction time and makes them more likely to make mistakes.
“Not drinking enough water affects the whole body, including the brain, leading to fatigue,” says Dr. Hussain, from King’s College London.
A 2015 survey of GPs in the UK found that one in five patients went to the doctor with symptoms such as fatigue that may be due to heavy drinking.

NHS guidelines state that women should drink 1.6 liters of fluid a day, which is equivalent to eight cups, while men should drink two litres, which is ten cups.
This includes tea, coffee, milk and fruit juice, although water is the best source because it does not contain caffeine or sugar.
Low energy can also be caused by diabetes. It is estimated that about 850,000 people in the UK live with type 2 without realizing it. There is a similar problem in the United States.
‘One of the reasons diabetes makes you so tired is because blood sugar levels that are too high or too low interfere with sleep,’ Dr Sufyan Hussein, from King’s College London, told MailOnline.
Tiredness And Fatigue: Why It Happens And How To Beat It
He added: “We know that the quality of your sleep varies depending on your blood sugar level, so having suboptimal blood sugar levels can disrupt sleep and make you tired.”
The relationship between type 2 diabetes and lack of sleep is a vicious cycle. Not only can insomnia be a sign of illness, but experts believe it can also be the cause.
Lack of sleep is thought to increase insulin resistance, levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and inflammation in the body.
One of the most comprehensive research published by the University of Bristol in April found that treating insomnia can cause a drop in blood sugar levels similar to losing 14 kg (2.3 lbs).
Narcolepsy: What It Is, Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
If you always feel very tired and have to get up at night to urinate a lot, this could be a sign of illness.
Other symptoms include feeling thirsty all the time, losing weight without trying, blurred vision, and cuts or wounds that take longer to heal.
These foods are all rich in iron, which is an essential component of hemoglobin, a type of protein found in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to all parts of your body.
Dozens of studies have shown that too little of the mineral can lead to anemia, which can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat.

In Great Britain, the British Medical Journal indicates that one in ten British women suffer from iron deficiency, while about 3 percent of men suffer from iron deficiency.
A 2003 review found that iron tablets may help people who have low iron levels but do not have clinical anemia.
